HomeGrown- CorkRail Kits

New for 2026, we're proud and excited to offer our CorkRail Construction method as a complete DIY kit. While some woodworking experience is helpful, the process is easier then ever thanks to a banded cork rail. If you enjoy working with your hands and can follow instructions, you should be able to tackle this project with great success. Most people take 40 hours of hands-on time to complete a board using our new CorkRail method. With glue and epoxy drying times, the fastest you can complete a board from a kit is about two weeks. However many people tackle the project over several months, picking away at it little by little as time allows. We've helped thousands of people do it. And we know that you’ll love the feeling of dropping into your first wave on surfboard you built yourself. It’s indescribable.

NEW- CorkRail Surfboard Kit

NEW- CorkRail Surfboard Kit

NEW To Our HomeGrown Kit Lineup - CorkRail Surfboard Kits

Are you a DIY kind of person? We've been offering wooden surfboard kits to home builders since 2006, and from the beginning we've wanted them to be complete, comprehensible and above all, do-able. We're now offering more shapes then ever as complete DIY kits and we're making the process even more intuitive with our new CorkRail Kits.

Featured in Huckberry's Shop Class: Episode 3, our new CorkRail Kits represent Grain’s latest innovation, born from years of rigorous product development and material testing. The DIY build process begins by gluing up pre-milled cedar planks and securing an internal frame to the rocker table to define the board's shape. Next, you’ll attach flexible cork rails to the perimeter with glue and clamps. After some initial shaping and prep, you will attach the top planks and the board will be whole. The fun keeps going as you transition into shape, sanding and glassing your own board. While woodworking experience is a plus, anyone who enjoys working with their hands and following instructions can tackle this project with success.

We've helped thousands of people do it. And we know that you’ll love the feeling of dropping into your first wave on a board you built yourself.   We love this process, and we want every surfer to get the same experience we've had, and to paddle out, incredulous, on a gorgeous board they built themselves.

HELPFUL TOOLS AND SUPPLIES:

Be sure to check out our Rocker Table Lift Kits too. It's a small additional investment that saves a lot of head scratching.

Before you decide on a surfboard kit from someone else, or even one of our other DIY products like plans or frame sets, make sure you understand the total cost of the component materials you'll have to source and buy separately, as well as the time it will take to fill in the gaps of knowledge that aren't covered in their manual.

Kits usually ship in 2-3 weeks, but let us know if there's a rush - once in a while we have a shortage of materials and have to wait for something to come in. You can find tools and other board building supplies and materials you might need, including our precision cut rocker lift sets in our online store.

Note: If you're in the UK, please visit Fyne Boat Kits. These good folks offer all of HomeGrown Kit designs using local woods. If you're anywhere else in the world, note that we may not be able to send you epoxy due to international haz-mat shipping regulations. If this is the case, we'll happily credit you back for the epoxies and any supplies we cant send and we'll do our best to help you find a local epoxy supplier in your part of the world.

Home build feeling to much to take on? Join us in Maine and let us walk you through the process in one of our workshops. You'll do the building, but we'll be at your side to make sure it all comes together just right.

"The complexity of the build was something I didn't fully appreciate.  The manual and the tips & tricks videos are great resources. This could be addictive..."

- Rich, Kit Builder
